To ensure a good level of carbonation in your beer, prime it with corn sugar before bottling. Can also be used in recipes to increase the original gravity & ABV, while also producing a drier beer.
Corn Sugar (dextrose) is used to prime your beer just before bottling or kegging. The sugar gives the yeast in the beer a little something to feed on during the aging process to create carbonation. Use 4 oz of corn sugar to prime five gallons prior to bottling. Corn sugar's contribution if used in a batch is 1.037 a pound per gallon.
