The Convoluted Copper Heat Exchanger works great as either an immersion wort chiller or HERMS coil. The twisted pattern of the convuluted tubing is designed to break up laminar flow, exposing more wort or water to the walls of the copper tubing and encouraging a more efficient transfer of heat. Heat exchange recirculating mash systems are featured on many professional-level pilot batch systems, including the BrewBuilt BrewSculpture™, and they can be easily rigged up for homebrewing as well.
